I had a double header (so to speak) at the Los Angeles Irish Film Festival on the 28th of September when Citadel and Charlie Casanova were screened with directors Ciarán Foy (Citadel) and Terry McMahon (Charlie Casanova) in attendance. It's a buzz having worked on the two films that they were shown on the same night in LA.
Previous to that Charlie Casanova won the best film, best director and best actor (Emmett Scanlan) prizes at the 13th Melbourne Underground Film Festival (aka MUFF XIII) at the end of August and is to be released on DVD on October 15th. Click here to see
what the DVD will look like... Order yer copies now!
Citadel is being screened at the 56th BFI London Film Festival on the 19th and 21st of October - details of the film and its screenings are to be found by clicking here. I'm calling out to all my London friends to go and have a look see if they're not too busy... It will be on general release in Ireland and the UK some time soon and as soon as I have the dates I'll be posting them straight away. Citadel will be released in the US on November 9th, three days after the presidential election - take a look at http://www.citadelmovie.com/
Kelly + Victor, another film that I worked on, is also being screened at the London Film Festival on October 14th, 16th & 20th. Click here to see details about the film and its screenings during the festival.
I'll have news of the film that I'm currently cutting at home in my Cottage de Montage (aka The Shedit) in my next post.
Forward in all directions!!!!

Citadel news
It's been a busy summer for Citadel and its director Ciarán Foy. The film was very well received at the Galway Film Fleadh in mid July (where it had its Irish premiere - on Friday the 13th!!!) and shared the Best Irish First Feature award with Alan Brennan's Earthbound. The week before Galway, it received its European premiere in the Neuchâtel International Fantastic Film Festival in Switzerland and was awarded the H. R. Giger Award for the Best Fantastic Feature Film, the Silver Méliès award for the Best European Fantastic Feature Film and received a special mention from the Mad Movies Jury (it says here on the NIFF awards web page.). After Galway, Ciarán & co. headed to the 16th Puchon International Fantastic Film Festival aka PiFan in South Korea for Citadel's Asian premiere where it won the best director and best actor awards - congratulations to Ciarán & Aneurin Barnard. After Puchon, it was straight to Canada where the film was shown to full houses and received great reviews during the Montreal Fantasia International Film Festival. It has been selected to be shown in the 56th BFI London Film Festival on the 19th & 21st of October next - details here.
Finally, the film will be on general release in the US from October 19th - exciting times!

The IFTAs aftermath + Citadel wows 'em in Texas
I was all excited about being nominated for the Irish Film & Television Academy Best Editing award for Charlie Casanova last time I wrote on this blog. Well, I didn't win but I had a helluva great night, meeting lots of friends and colleagues during the awards show and the after show beano. Congratulations to Isobel Stephenson who won the award for her work on Love/Hate. Here's a pic (taken by the lovely Dee Collier) of myself with Eugene McCrystal of EMC Post and Jim Duggan, MD of Screenscene at the after show shindig.
It was a massive achievement for a shoestring budget film like Charlie Casanova to be nominated in five categories at the IFTAs and it was a great honour for myself and for the director & writer Terry McMahon to have received this recognition from our colleagues in the business. Obviously, it would have been even better if we had actually won something though... The film will be in the cinemas in Ireland and the UK from May 11th this year so that's something to look forward to.
Citadel has been a great success at SxSW Film Festival in Austin Texas, with the film receiving very positive reviews, including a rave from Variety. It also won the Midnighters Audience Award at the festival so its writer/director Ciarán Foy and the producers Kate Holly and Brian Coffey are all very excited at the tremendous reaction. Hopefully this will be a huge help in getting a distribution deal to get Citadel into the cinemas. You can see the trailer here https://vimeo.com/38863915
I've created a number of portfolios of my editing work on Vimeo where you can look at music videos, films (full length shorts & trailers of feature films) and commercials until you have to get on with your lives again. Here's the link https://vimeo.com/thecolonel/portfolios

Time for the glad rags...
In a few days I will be live on Irish television accepting the Best Editing Award for Charlie Casanova at the Irish Film and Television Academy's 9th Awards Ceremony which is to be held in Dublin on the 11th of February 2012. Or alternatively, I will be escorted from the building after destroying a television camera, five seats and a plate glass door as a result of a humungous freakout after not getting the award. Either way, it'll be rivetting telly. Here's the link to the IFTA page for yiz

Seriously though, it is an amazing achievement to be nominated for my contribution to the beast of a film that is Charlie Casanova and also that it received nominations for Best Director, Best Film, Best Script and also garnered a nomination for Rising Star for its lead, Emmett J. Scanlan.
To maintain the buzz, Citadel has been selected by the wonderful SXSW Film Festival in Austin, Texas, for its world premiere next month. That's the second notch to my SXSW bow as Charlie Casanova (him again) was screened there last year. A wonderful surprise and a huge boost for its director, Ciarán Foy. Check it out here

About bloody time!
There's nothing like being up to the minute, is there? And, since I am nothing of the sort, here's a couple of advertising related things I worked on in the latter half of 2011. The first is an interactive web malarkey for the clothing mob ASOS which features amazing street dancers, body poppers, break dancers and a troupe of Morris dancers (joking about the last lot there) all doing marvelous moves while allowing the user to click away with a rich interactive experience, don't you know. You can go to ASOS Urban Tour to have your own giddy way or you can watch the linear version here
I had the pleasure of working with the lovely Alex Ogus in Paris on a commercial for Societé Géneral, produced by Stéphanie Huguenin for Irène Productions with the agency being my old friends at Fred and Farid. The advert is for a bank card that offers free music downloads and is a timely reminder to develop one's beatboxing skills in case one encounters wolves who are into deep house. Regardez-vous ici!
